In 2009, Australian video processing and distribution technology company Blackmagic Design bought da Vinci Systems, retaining and expanding the engineering team for Resolve but eliminating support-based contracts for the tool.
This was initially implemented using proprietary hardware cards however, the 4K resolution Resolve R series (such as the R-100, introduced in 2008, and the stereoscopic 3D R-360-3D, introduced in 2009) replaced this proprietary hardware with CUDA-based NVIDIA GPUs. The systems leveraged parallel processing in an InfiniBand topology to support performance during color grading. These initial versions were integrated exclusively into dedicated hardware controllers. It began with three possible configurations: the Resolve DI digital intermediate color correction tool, the Resolve FX visual effects tool, and the Resolve RT 2K resolution processing tool.
The system was first announced in 2003 and released in 2004.

The initial versions of DaVinci Resolve (known then as da Vinci Resolve) were resolution-independent software tools developed by da Vinci Systems (based in Coral Springs, Florida), who had previously produced other color correction systems such as da Vinci Classic (1985), da Vinci Renaissance (1990), and da Vinci 2K (1998). The body also has Bluetooth wireless control, HDMI for connecting field monitors and, best of all, will ship with Resolve 15 at a cost of just $1,295. There's a five-inch touch display too, which, although fixed, should be good for many situations and grants access to the familiar menu system from the Ursa. On top of this, the camera has a USB-C port so you can record directly to your editing drive, or use the SD and CFast 2.0 slots built in. Should you wish to use the glass from your favourite Canon or similar, you'll be able to. The body will ship with an MFT mount, but adapters will be available for other systems.

The Pocket Cinema Camera 4k also promises an excellent ISO range of up to 25,600 for low-light shooting and frame rates up to120fps, 13 stops of dynamic range and RAW options.

Housed in a compact body, it'll include a mini XLR jack with phantom power for pro audio capture. The camera, which won't be available until September, will land with a 4k Micro Four Thirds chip. Paired with Resolve Studio, it could be the core of an indie VFX studio, letting you shoot, edit, grade, and add effects and titles, all for one price with the pro level of interoperability you would expect from a single developer.
